I am very proud of my city. Raleigh, NC hosted the NHL All-Star game (and associated a activities) this weekend and it was fantastic. I don’t know how the experience was for an outsider visiting or watching at home but from my perspective Raleigh was a wonderful host, threw some great parties, offered up some beautiful weather and just generally impressed. A few high points:

A Year of Twitter
I have been so busy posting to my blog on a regular basis I belatedly realized that I have hit 1000 posts on Twitter! I guess my micro-blogging habit has really interfered with my regular blog updates (not that I was doing terribly well at blogging before the distraction of Twitter…). I spent some time going back through all my fascinating posts and realized that I’ve nearly hit another milestone: 1 year on Twitter. My first post was September 18th, 2008. It was at times sweet, nostalgic, painful and hilarious to read my thoughts on events of the last year. There were very few things that I couldn’t find a…

Fall Frolicking
Well, I still feel bad about having dropped my class but there’s no doubt in my mind that was the solution for me. Things have been much easier without a class to worry about, although I do still owe my professor a project from the Spring. But I am good at procrastinating and having flexibility does wonders for my mood– so much less stress! Really makes me not want to go back to grad school, too… The last few nights I’ve just been home, doing laundry and watching TV. Sure, I still work from home, check email, update Drupal etc., but it’s easier now that I don’t get home at…

hodgepodge: pick n’ choose
My professor referenced an obscure Bare NakedLadies song in order to make a point today in class. I seriously doubt that anyone in that room other than me had even heard of the song. This class has some terrible readings (think 120 pages of stereo instructions) but this prof does a good job of explaining things and he’s Canadian so occasionally I get these hilarious and strange references. My weekend was GREAT- thanks for asking. Both my teams won and the hockey game went to overtime and was wonderful. The weather was incredible, the food and beer plentiful and tasty and the friends didn’t make fun of me as much…

The joys of nature
Camping review: excellent. No puking or flooded tents. The mountains were awe-inspiring and thought-provoking. Lots of fun with friends. Hope to have the chance to go again soon. Weather was supposed to be upper 70’s but I swear it was hotter than that. I ended up sunburned and sweaty. Add to that a short hike through the woods, crawling under a barb-wire fence and diving to hit the birdie (badminton- no animal cruelty) and you can understand how happy I was to see my shower. I think that’s the secret joy of camping: the coming back to civilization.

Joy to the World
We sit at the precipice of my favorite time of year.I can’t tell you for sure the day it starts, but one day it’s just here. We have in front of us a good six months of great sports, activities, weather and more and I love the anticipation of all that’s to come… Sports: football, hockey, the best of the baseball (what little there is) and then basketball Activities: fall parties, weddings, vacations, tailgating, band competitions (don’t you judge me!), holidays, Oktoberfest Weather: cooler temperatures with lovely breezes, nice crisp winter air More: Thanksgiving food, Christmas food, fall and winter movies, the leaves turning colors, time with family and friends…

Canes WIN!!
If you look back to September 2005, I told you to support your local hockey team following the “new” NHL rules. Fast-paced, action-packed, high-scoring- and apparently the Canes are good at it! What a wonderful year. Cole, Staal, Brindy, Petie- I could list them all. They all worked so hard and it was, is and will continue to be through all the celebrations, one of the most fun and memorable events of my life. Still surreal- but fun! 🙂 I love my team. Thank you Canes!

Endangered Species
See if you can find it in your heart to save hockey. It’s going to be faster, tougher and better. Support your local team!
